My color philosophy

Let the story
lead the image.

I’m drawn to naturalism, simple decisions, and images that feel like they belong to the film. A grade should deepen the experience without calling attention to the work.

Begin with what is there

The light, lens, production design, and performance already give an image its character. I try to understand those decisions before changing them. Naturalism is my starting point, even when the final world is stylised.

Fewer moves, clearer reasons

I want to know what each adjustment is doing for the scene. A coherent color pipeline and broad, intentional choices usually get me further than a complicated node tree. My mentor Cullen Kelly continues to shape the way I think about color.

Judge the cut, not just the still

My background is in editing. I look at how shots speak to each other, how a face carries a moment, and whether the image supports the emotional rhythm. References and an open conversation with the director and DP help us find that direction together.
