Film degrees & Docler
An editor’s beginning.
BA in 2011. A year filming for György Gattyán, then an MA in editing in 2015. My way into the image started with the cut.
Professional introductionAbout David
I’m David Laposi, a Budapest-based colorist, DIT, and filmmaker. I move between the edit, the grading room, and the set, and bring what I learn in each place into the next.
I completed my first film degree at Eszterházy Károly University in 2011, then my master’s in motion picture art at Budapest Metropolitan University in 2015, specialising in editing.
Between those stages I worked as a videographer and editor for György Gattyán. At Umbrella Budapest / New York, I worked across editing, online, and finishing. That experience still shapes how I think about every frame in the context of a sequence.
My work has taken me from music videos and commercials to international feature films and television. Contributions include data management on Black Widow and Glass Onion, array camera DIT work on The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and daily DIT assistant work on Dune: Part Two.
I also direct, edit, and grade my own projects. Understanding the pressures around an image helps me support the people making it.
I work from Space Color Studio in Budapest and collaborate remotely, including with Mission Film & Design in San Francisco since 2022. I became Dolby Vision certified in 2021.
I’m open to travel, international collaboration, and the right opportunity abroad. Curiosity and adaptability have taken me into very different working environments, and I enjoy that part of the job.
My Color Accelerator workshops have reached more than 300 participants. I have taught at Budapest Metropolitan University in English and worked with Hungary’s national television restoration team.
I continue to study, including personal training with Cullen Kelly , and test ideas through practical research such as my 18-camera comparison. Teaching keeps the reasoning behind my own decisions clear.

ON LOCATION. IN CONNECTION.
On set across Europe and Egypt. Remote collaborations from San Francisco to Mumbai. Wherever the work takes me, the conversation follows the image — from the first reference to the final frame.
